PG RCMP catch 21 shoplifters during “Boost and Bust” initiative

Police in Prince George partnered with Superstore to target prolific shoplifters.

Over a three-day period, 21 shoplifters were arrested, and over $8,000 in merchandise was recovered.

Police say several offenders were caught with more than $1,000 worth of merchandise.

Police are familiar with everyone who was arrested, three of which were in breach of court-ordered conditions.

Police are forwarding the following charges to the BC Prosecution Service:

  • Theft under $5,000 x18
  • Breach of court ordered conditions x4
  • Obstruct a police officer x2
  • Resist arrest x1

In addition, investigators held two of the offenders, who will both remain in custody until their next court appearance.

The BC Prosecution Service approved charges for:

Walter Wilson:

  • Resist arrest
  • Possession of a scheduled substance x2

Skylar Jakesta:

  • Theft under $5,000
  • Fail to comply with undertaking
  • Fail to comply with probation

“We will continue to work with local businesses to target prolific shoplifters,” said Cpl. Kurt Chapman.

“Many of the people arrested during these projects are known to the businesses we collaborate with, so it is an efficient system when we can work with the Loss Prevention Officers on site to catch offenders in the act.”
