Update: United Way’s Tree of Lights Campaign surpasses $52,000

Update: 11:00 AM Today (Thursday)

Thanks to a strong final day, the United Way Tree of Lights Campaign has surpassed its goal of raising 50-grand.

“The City of Prince George totally came through, this morning we woke up to $52,546,” said Executive Director Trista Spencer.

She added they are keeping donations open to January 6th.

“As donations keep coming in, every $100 or every $1,000, that just means another program can potentially be funded,” said Meghan Ginter Director of Resource Development with the United Way.

Original story from Dec 22:

Today is the final day of the United Way’s Tree of Lights Campaign, and there’s still a little more work to do.

According to Executive Director Trista Spencer, they are a little over $7,000 short of their goal of $50,000.

She added that today is a good day to donate.

“We have John M. Duncan Law come on board to match up to $3,000 of donations today, so you’re effectively doubling your donation,” Spencer explained.

Spencer says the donations will go to a huge assortment of programming.

“All of them are for the vulnerable people in our community, so we’re looking specifically at programming for people with disabilities who would be able to otherwise not socialize or get supports that they need for perhaps a brain injury or stroke recovery. We’re talking about or 24-hour crisis line that we’re very fortunate to have in Northern BC, maybe not being able to continue funding them to the capacity that we have, meaning their capacity goes down.”

“Those are the kinds of things that are supercritical to us being able to have that successful society around us and without the support of the community, the funding just doesn’t get there.”

Anyone who wishes to donate can do so by clicking here.
