Olivia expected to be most popular baby name in BC for second straight year

Olivia has been the most popular name for babies in BC since 2020 according to the BC Government.

The name is once again expected to be given to babies the most in BC in 2021, followed by Liam, Noah, Jack, Emma, Benjamin, Theodore, Oliver and Charlotte, according to the Vital Statistics Agency’s preliminary figures from January 1st to December 15th, 2021.

In 2020, 239 newborn girls in BC were named Olivia, followed by 184 girls named Emma. Olivia has been the most popular name given to girls each year since 2016.

For boys, Liam is expected to be the most popular name in 2021. Liam was the most popular boys name in 2020 as well, 223 boys were given the name, followed closely by Oliver with 215 babies.
