$5,000 raised for PG Humane Society on Betty White’s 100th

Monday, January 17th would have been TV legend and animal advocate Betty White’s 100th birthday.

Following White’s passing on December 31st, her fans came up with a challenge to donate $5 to a local animal shelter, and the impact was felt in Prince George.

“We knew this kind of challenge would be really successful, for animal rescues, but to be honest, we didn’t realize how much of an impact it would make,” said Prince George Humane Society Executive Director Angela McLaren.

“Roughly, we received just over $5,000 from all the people that donated towards the challenge.”

McLaren added the donations are going towards medical expenses.

“We always knew Betty White was a huge advocate for animals, but it was just amazing to see, not just the country,  the actual world come together to make a difference for animal welfare,” McLaren said.

“Sometimes the animals are forgotten in the process of making donations, so it was great to see she could make a difference to animal rescues across the world with her birthday celebration although she’s no longer with us.”

McLaren added the shelter is still accepting donations towards the challenge, which can be done at the shelter.
