The Prince George RCMP are giving an in depth look at the work being done in the city in tomorrow’s (Monday) City Council Meeting.
Superintendent Shaun Wright will be giving the Year in Review presentation, which shows some startling statistics.
A 2020 city comparison shows Prince George has a smaller population than Kelowna, Kamloops, and Nanaimo, but the city has almost double the crime rate.
The 23 page document also shows that PG has a much higher case load.
Where Kelowna, Nanaimo, and Kamloops have one officer for about every 680- 715 people, PG has an officer for every 579.
Since 2018, file counts have been on the rise as well, going from 44,118, to 50,182.
That being said, prisoner counts have been on the decline, going from 3,246, to 2,640.
The number of calls for downtown have also shot up, 2018 saw 5,623, where 2021 saw 7,691.
During budget talks in the last City Council meeting, many council members were hoping for more information from the detachment after some talks about potentially making some cuts.
Some other highlights in tomorrow’s meeting will see the Prince George Sexual Assault Centre applying for $100,000 through the Northern Development Initiative Trust’s Northern Healthy Communities Fund to bring in two experienced staff members, and the Copilot Cannabis shop application will be getting it’s third and final reading.
