UNBC is hosting a session to help students understand their options when it comes to funding their education.
In the session, UNBC’s Director of Student Recruitment, Dennis Stark says they’ll cover the different scholarships, bursaries, and other funding available, and who they’re available to.
“We really want to let people know the breadth of funding that’s available, and dispel the myth that it’s only for students with the top grades,” Stark said.
“We also want to walk students through the application process, talking about where they go to find the various awards where they can review the criteria, how to work through the online application, and how to submit any other supplemental documentation that might be required for specific awards. We’ll also talk about the provincial student loan and grant program, as well as funding supports for indigenous students.”
Stark added that UNBC awards over $3 million in scholarships, awards and bursaries, and 1 in 4 students receive some kind of financial award during their study. He said the values of these scholarships can range from $250 to $22,500.
Stark says they won’t just be talking about the funding UNBC awards.
“The awards and financial aid team are going to be touching on the total costs of attending university, so that folks have a better idea of how they budget for post-secondary and then look at the options available to them,” Start explained.
“Whether it be their own savings, full or part time employment, certainly applying for certain scholarships and bursaries, putting the effort into that, and potentially looking at other sources, such as the provincial student loan program.”
Stark added the provincial student loan program also offers some grants grants that do not need to be paid back.
The session will take place on March 1st at 5:00 PM over Zoom, and is open to current, and future post-secondary students.
