Winter’s not done with Prince George just yet

Don’t put away the winter clothes just yet, Prince George.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Derek Lee says a ridge of high pressure bringing colder air into the region.

“Temperatures are expected to drop Saturday overnight, and be kind of cool towards next week as well,” Lee said.

“It looks to be pretty much cool weather for the long weekend, and into next week we’re still seeing that cold weather lingering around in the area. By the end of the weekend, towards the end of the month, there could be a slight warmup.”

As of today (Thursday), Environment Canada is forecasting highs of -7 on Sunday, with an overnight low of -21. Lee added the average temperatures for this time of year in the Prince George area are highs of zero, and overnight lows of -9.

“A ridge of high pressure bringing in the cold air will generally bring sunny skies into the region, so it’s kind of a trade-off,” Lee said.

“Around this time of year it is generally cool, as we still are not quite into the spring season, and we are forecasting a La Nina year. La Nina year usually means colder temperatures for Interior BC.”
