City of PG looks to 311 calls for puddles and potholes

The City of Prince George has 5,859 catch basins and 693 km of ditches.

That’s according to Mike Kellett with the City, who said with the size of Prince George, 311 calls can help make sure maintenance work gets done quickly.

“We really appreciate people reporting any kind of problems, for service requests for the city in particular, potholes, puddles, ponding, that kind of thing. We have a limited number of staff, and they work really hard, and they try to get everywhere, but it’s a big city geographically.”

During the February 7th week, the city saw almost 500 calls for service related to ponding or puddles.

Kellett said they only had 27 calls to report potholes though.

“I think the thing about potholes is you have to be able to see them for people to be able to report them, and at this time of year there’s still a lot of ice on a lot of city streets.”

He also noted that they’ll sometimes get calls about the highways, but said that’s maintained by someone else.

“In the City of Prince George we have two major highways which go through town. So the maintenance, including pothole repair, rehabilitation, and snow plowing is the responsibility of the provincial government for those highways.”

Kellett added that the City is responsible for city assets, like priority one, two, and three routes.
