Playwriting programs arrive in PG for spring break

Theatre NorthWest is putting together programs for anyone interested in theatre or storytelling.

Julian Legere with Theatre NorthWest is hosting Playwriting for Youth, Playwriting for Beginners, Playwriting for Artists, and a Youth Theatre Camp.

“So the playwriting program for youth, and then the Youth Theatre Camp will be weeklong intensive during spring break, one each week in March. But then there will also be a period of remote mentorship as participants are working on their plays for the writing programs,” said Legere.

“The Playwriting for Beginners and Playwriting for Artists will be in person for those weekly sessions, and there will be a bit of remote work as they finish their plays after that as well.”

The Playwriting for Youth program will be held from March 21st to May 14th.

The Playwriting for Beginners program will be held from March 20th to May 21st.

The Playwriting for Artists program will be held from March 28th to May 28th.

And the Youth Theatre Camp will be held from March 14th to March 19th.

“The Theatre Camp will be just sort of a classic spring break theatre camp. So they’ll learn text analysis, do some theatre performance skills.”

Legere added that participants in the theatre camp will be able to help out with a play he is putting together.

“I’m writing an adaptation of a play called rihannaboi95 by Jordan Tannahill. It’s a play about a young, queer man who does drag videos on Youtube, and it’s written as a Youtube confessional of him kind of telling his fans the story about his family finding out about it. So we’re looking to do an update of it, and have it be set in Prince George in the present day.”

Anyone looking for more information on the playwriting programs or theatre camp can find it on the Theatre NorthWest website.
