BC’s police watchdog recommends charges against two PG RCMP officers

The Independent Investigations Office has passed off its findings to the Prosecution Service following the arrest of a suspected truck thief dating back to July of 2020 in Prince George.

BC’s police watchdog stated yesterday (Wednesday) the evidence was reviewed by Chief Civilian Director Ron MacDonald where it was later determined two RCMP officers may have committed offenses during the arrest.

According to police, the vehicle was reportedly stolen from Alberta and was located in a parking lot along the 14-hundred block of the Old Cariboo Highway.

From there, one man and two women were found inside and fled to a nearby forest in the vicinity of Highway 16 East.

The male culprit was located a short time later but sustained serious injuries while being taken into custody.

The two women were arrested without incident.

“In order to approve any charges, the BC Prosecution Service must be satisfied that there is a substantial likelihood of conviction based on the evidence gathered by the IIO, and that prosecution be required in the public interest,”
