PG park washroom upgrades asks for more money due to lack of bidders

$260,000 could be added to a $500,000 budget for the Carrie Jane Gray Park washroom upgrade project in Prince George.

The City opened the project up for construction companies to bid on back in 2021, but only received one bidder, which was for a price higher than what was budgeted.

They reopened the project for bidders at the start of 2022, thinking that companies were too busy to bid on the project.

Again, only one company bid on the project, and the projected construction costs were double the budgeted amount.

Tomorrow’s (Monday) City Council meeting will discuss pulling money from the Community Works Fund and the General Infrastructure Fund to meet the budget requirements.

The original $500,000 is funded through the Community Works Fund as well, and the revised budget will include:

  • Construction costs: $597,000
  • Site related costs: $46,000
  • Consulting and Design: $60,000
  • Contingency: $57,000

The City will also be getting an updated report on the Jumpstart Multisport Court initiative, $200,000 will be added to the Downtown Renewable Energy System budget, and the City will undergo the final reading for the Copilot Cannabis rezoning application.
