More PG residents taking the bus as fuel prices climb

BC Transit buses in Prince George may be a bit fuller now with high gas prices.

According to BC Transit Spokesperson Jamie Weiss, BC Transit has seen an increase in ridership in Prince George. However, he says the hike in fuel prices may not be the only thing hiking ridership.

“That includes maybe more people returning to work and regular activities, and maybe less hesitancy around COVID-19,” Weiss said.

Weiss added there won’t be an impact on fares or routes as the cost of fuel continues to increase.

“Our fuel budget accounts for roughly 6% of BC Transit’s total provincial operational budget, so we’re just going to continue to monitor things,” Weiss said.

“We’ve got a long-term fuel contract, we’re not anticipating that we’ll experience any real challenges in providing and continuing to provide reliable service.”
