PG man charged for setting dumpster on fire

Police say one man has been charged after he was caught setting a dumpster on fire.

Just before midnight on Monday, the Prince George RCMP received a report from a security monitoring company of an Arson that just occurred.

Police say a male suspect was seen igniting a recycling bin next to a business on the 1600 block of Spruce Street.

Police and Fire Rescue attended the scene and found the bin was fully engulfed. The fire was promptly extinguished. The suspect had fled the scene before they arrived.

After the RCMP and Fire Rescue left the scene, the security monitoring company called again and reported the suspect had returned to the area.

According to police, they returned to the scene and found the suspect trying to start another fire. He fled on foot, but was arrested a short distance away.

The BC Prosecution Service approved the following Criminal Code charges against 36-year-old Edward Joseph Brookfield of Prince George:

  • Mischief Under $5,000
  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order x 2

Police say Brookfield has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance, which is scheduled for April 5th.
