BC wants feedback on cannabis consumption spaces

Do you want cannabis lounges to be allowed in BC?

That’s one of the questions being asked by the Ministry of Public Safety in their public engagement to gauge whether cannabis consumption spaces should be allowed in the province.

A discussion paper offered a range of possibilities for how to roll out possible consumption spaces:

  • Sampling experiences at cannabis farm tours
  • designated areas after buying cannabis at a retail store
  • event spaces that have tastings, a “cannabis garden”, or classes on cooking with cannabis extract
  • cannabis lounges that offer edibles, beverages, and extracts, along with food services.
  • restaurants that serve both alcohol and cannabis

The province said it won’t consider allowing indoor smoking or vaping, but is considering outdoor smoking and vaping in consumption spaces.

One of the benefits listed in the paper include benefits to cannabis, tourism, and the hospitality industry, but also notes this could lead to an increase in drug-affected driving.

The Ministry is accepting feedback through their survey, or through written submissions until May 9th.
