Man arrested following downtown tire fire

One man has been arrested after a stack of tires was lit on fire.

Just after 7:00 a.m. Sunday, the Prince George RCMP responded to a report of a large stack of tires burning in the 600-block of Third Avenue.

When police arrived at the scene, they found burning tires were starting to catch power lines in the area on fire.

Police evacuated the area while the fire was extinguished.

According to police, they reviewed video surveillance and noted a suspect with distinct clothing. He was located a few blocks away, and was arrested for arson.

Police have identified the man as 25-year-old Prince George resident, Ulysses Nicholas, who is known to police.

He was held for court on April 4th.

The BC Prosecution Service approved one charge of arson against Nicholas.

“The quick and efficient work of our Frontline officers led to this man being arrested and held for court within hours of the fire being lit,” said PG RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.

The file is still under investigation, anyone with information is being asked to contact the Prince George RCMP.
