WHL:

Prince George Cougars  2  Victoria Royals  1

Ethan Samson snapped a 1-1 tie on the power-play with 6:31 left in the third period before 2,759 fans at CN Centre.

Samson also assisted on the other P.G. goal by Captain Jonny Hooker.

Ty Young made 29 saves as the Royals outshot the Cats 30-23.

The (23-38-4-1) Cougars move from 9th in the Western Conference, into a tie with the (23-38-4-1) Spokane Chiefs for 6th, one point ahead of the (22-38-5-1) Royals and the (23-37-4-0) Vancouver Giants.

The Giants suffered their eighth straight loss, falling 8-4 to the Kelowna Rockets while the Chiefs also lost on Saturday night 6-2 to the Seattle Thunderbirds.

Vancouver has four games remaining, P.G., Victoria, and Spokane have two left.

The Cougars, who have dropped 15 of their last 19, will close on the road at Kamloops on Friday and at Kelowna on Saturday, April 16th.

The Giants visit Kelowna again tonight, host Seattle on Wednesday, host Kelowna on Friday, and visit Kamloops on Saturday.

The Royals host Spokane on Friday and Saturday.

Cameron Smith is in second place at 6-under-210.

Top Canadian Corey Conners is tied for 6th at 1-under-215, eight strokes from the top.

Tiger Woods is tied for 41st at 7-over-223 following a third-round 78, his worst round ever at the Masters.
