Hometown Hockey arrives in Prince George

It was a cold, windy morning at Exhibition Park outside the CN Centre today (Saturday).

That didn’t stop Prince George hockey fans from kicking off this weekend’s Roger’s Hometown Hockey festival.

The festival started with opening remarks from Lheidli T’enneh Chief Dolleen Logan and Prince George City Councillor Garth Frizzell. Frizzell gave the opening remarks on behalf of Mayor Lyn Hall, who was out of town.

The first set of three performances by PG’s own ‘The Ebbs’ followed the remarks.

Hockey fans both young and old flocked to the games set up around the festival, including shooting accuracy and stick handling.

Some families were also brought up on the main stage to win free groceries, as well as some hockey-themed toys.

One of the biggest, and perhaps the most popular attractions was in the centre of the parking lot, the street hockey rink.

Teams of youngsters took turns facing off against each other throughout the day.

The festival continues to 5:00 p.m. today, tomorrow from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.m and on Monday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.
