A candle causes $150,000 in damages up in the Hart

Prince George Fire Rescue responded to a fire this morning (Wednesday) at 9:03 on the 7100 block of the Hart Highway.

According to Assistant Chief Kevin Woodhouse, both of the residents managed to get out.

“Both of the occupants of the structure were transported down to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation. They were in bed at the time of the accident, and they had a candle burning beside their bed, and the female occupant woke up and discovered smoke and flame, and woke up her boyfriend, and they managed to get out of the unit.”

Damages to the unit were around $20,000, but Woodhouse noted that the building needs to be replaced.

“Because of the age of the unit, it was a 1978 single wide trailer, so the unit itself structurally is a complete write off, but replacement value for a single wide trailer would be about $150,000.”

He added that three halls responded to the blaze, they managed to initiate a rapid attack, therefore confining the blaze to a single unit, and no firefighters were injured at this call.
