ICYMI: PG Solidarity Walk for Ukraine to be held today

Prince George is continuing to show solidarity with Ukraine.

Starting at 2:00 p.m. today, there will be a ‘Prince George Solidarity Walk for Ukraine’ held in Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park.

“We will meet at the Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park Pavillion,” said one of the people behind the event, Sherry Theuerkauf.

“People will have the opportunity to make signs, I’ll provide some posters and markers for that. You’re welcome to wear blue and yellow, over a good layer of warm clothes because the weather won’t be that great.”

She added that a Lheidli T’enneh will provide an opening prayer, followed by the Canadian and Ukrainian national anthems.

After the opening ceremony, they’ll walk to Yelenka Hall to spend some time there, before walking back to the park.

Theuerkauf said there will be an opportunity for the community to donate to the local Share Hope Refugee Settlement Community.

“They have supported the settlement of refugees from Afghanistan and Syria in past times of conflict, and now their focus is heavily on the Ukrainian refugee situation.”
