Prince George Symphony Orchestra announces shows and program

The Prince George Symphony Orchestra (PGSO) will be holding their performance of The Hummingbird and the Fire on Sunday (April 24th), but they also announced another show, as well as a program for kids.

A partnership between the Prince George Conservatory of Music and PGSO is creating a program that starts on Monday (April 25th) to bring children and youth together to play in the Prince George Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Participation is free and is open to both beginner and advanced levels.

“It’s open to violin, viola, cello, and bass. At the moment we just have violin and cello, although I think some of those violinists can also play viola,” said conservatory Artistic Director Shoshanna Godber.

“There’s just been no opportunity in town for young string players to play in a group. As you’ve mentioned, it used to be in the schools, and for a long time it hasn’t been,” said PGSO Music Director Michael Hall.

The other show that was announced is the Discovery Concert: Mozart.

That show will run next Saturday (April 30th) at the Vanier Hall.

Hall said that this will be a multi-media event where he guides the audience through Mozart’s work, as well as his life.

He added that this is an introductory piece for anyone who wants to give classical music a try.

“All of it is about access in a way, the youth orchestra getting kids involved in music at a young age. The discovery concert, young and old, to discover Mozart maybe for the first time. And these children’s concerts are an opportunity for young people to be exposed to music.”
