Man wanted on Canada-wide warrant arrested in Prince George

One man has been arrested following an armed robbery of a person.

Just after 2:30 a.m. on Saturday (April 30th), the Prince George RCMP received a report of an armed robbery of a person near Ospika Boulevard and 15th Avenue.

According to police, the victim stated he was robbed at gunpoint by a male and female, and the suspects had fled along Ospika Boulevard.

Police say they flooded the surrounding area, and located a person on a bike who matched the description of a male suspect.

The man fled from police, eventually leaving his bike behind and hopping a fence.

The man was arrested after a foot chase. One RCMP officer reportedly suffered a non-life-threatening injury during the arrest.

“Police identified the man as Smitty Ralph Bent, who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for violating his parole conditions,” said Prince George RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.

“Mr. Bent was found in possession of a loaded firearm when police arrested him.”

Police say Bent was held in custody until he could attend court, and the BC Prosecution Service has approved the following charges:

  • Armed robbery with a firearm
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited/restricted firearm without a license
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession was unauthorized
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order x2
  • Possession of a weapon

Bent will remain in custody until his next court appearance, and the female suspect remains outstanding.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Prince George RCMP.
