Northern Fancon moves to a not-for-profit model

Northern Fancon is coming to Prince George from May 13th to the 15th, and with it, cosplayers, stars from a range of different fandoms, and even a spaceship.

Executive Director Norm Coyne hopes to keep it this way, as he’s moved the event to a not-for-profit model.

“We made the decision to convert Fancon to a not-for-profit society fairly recently. It’s been in the works for a little while, but after last year I was looking at it, and I was like, it’s very important to me that the Fancon legacy continues in the city.”

Coyne noted that he’s now the Executive Director for the society, and answers to a board of directors, which there are four of at the moment.

“We’re not on the hunt for board members right now, just because we are knee deep in the planning of the event for this year, but it’s not to say that we won’t be looking for board members once we get through this and are looking towards 2023.”

He said that Fancon wouldn’t be possible without sponsors and volunteers, and that moving to a non profit model opened up doors to potential grant funding, or other sponsors.
