Local governments can plan for summer heat waves with preparedness funding

We may still be seeing some cool and wet weather at the moment, but a funding stream is being made available for local governments and First Nations to help prepare for summer heat waves.

The Union of BC Municipalities said The Community Emergency Preparedness Fund has a new stream for Extreme Heat Risk Mapping, Assessment, and Planning.

Municipalities, regional districts, and all First Nations are eligible for this funding, and will give knowledge, and help plan responses to adapt to these risks.

Last year in June, people in Prince George were calling for cooling centres in the city.

Eligible applicants for this funding will need to submit their applications by June 24th.
