Climb for Cancer exceeds fundraising goal

An estimated 400 people climbed the cutbanks on Sunday to raise money for the Kordyban Lodge on Sunday.

“We were just thrilled about the event, we haven’t been able to host it in the spring for the last two years, so being able to come back to our roots was really exciting,” said Planning Committee Chair Doug Bell.

“You could tell from the energy in the crowd, we had great weather, and even more importantly, we were able to raise over $60,000.”

Bell said the goal was the $60,000 mark, around $10,000 more than the year before.

In total, over $300,000 has been raised over seven years.

“In particular in this market, it’s very expensive for people to stay when they’re undergoing cancer treatment,” Bell said

“By adding these funds to the Kordyban Lodge, we can reduce their costs quite a bit.”

Donations are still be accepted and can be made here.

“I think it’s really important to remember that these things don’t just happen once a year,” Bell said.

“There are many things and many organizations we can support throughout the year that make a big difference to people in time of need.”
