UNBC research lab receiving $1.9-million in federal funding

A new Environmental Solutions Innovation Hun will be established at the University of Northern BC.

This hub will be created with a $1.9-million investment from the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada, or PacifiCan.

“We need to invest in innovation if we want to solve the planet’s problems around the world,” said Federal Minister of International Development, and Minister responsible for PacifiCan, Harjit Sajjan.

“These homegrown solutions can have global impacts as well.”

The hub will allow for increased and expedited development prototyping of new materials and technologies, as well as helping solve environmental concerns involving B.C’s natural resources sector.

“This funding means a lot to us,” said, Head of Northern Analytical Laboratory Services (NALS), Dr. Hossein Kazemian.

“This funding, in the next three to four years, is going to help us with the equipment we want and we need for our research, and for the personnel that we want.”

Kazemian says the problems UNBC’s NALS lab is tackling is water, air, and soil pollution.
