Lheidli T’enneh host first “Moccasin Walk”

The Lheidli T’enneh First Nation hosted their first ever “Moccasin Walk” this afternoon on their territory.

“We usually attend the Sun Run every year, so this year, due to COVID-19, and everything going on in our world, we decided to do it in our own territory,” said Tamara Seymour, Health Manager for Lheidli T’enneh.

“We just wanted to bring our community together, and do something that is fun, healthy, and after COVID-19, being isolated for so long, we just wanted to do something fun and outdoors.”

According to Lheidli T’enneh Chief Dolleen Logan, it was the first event the First Nation hosted since they shut down due to the pandemic.

“It feels great, I’m pumped, I’m excited, I’m being pulled in all different directions saying hi to everybody,” Logan said.

“It’s like a huge family reunion for friends.”

The funds raised from the event will go towards the Lheidli T’enneh Elders.

At the start of the walk, Logan said around $21,000 had been raised so far.

“Right now, we need to get together as a community, and try and find joys of life again,” Seymour added.

“I think this promotes health, but is also building onto our nation and our community building. We have so much feeling that happens when we’re together as a community.”
