Recruitment drive nets 121 volunteers for BC Summer Games

A volunteer drive for the BC Summer Games was held over the weekend.

“We did a fairly good job, but we did just over 100, so that’s pretty good, but we definitely are still looking for more volunteers,” said Tracy James, Director of Participant and Volunteer Services

Coming into the drive, the goal was to sign up 500 people to volunteer at the games.

James has said that they need around 3,000 people to volunteer to put on the games.

With around 2,300 volunteers left to go, James said they will be going out in public to continue recruiting.

“We’re going to be at the farmers market pretty much every Saturday, we’re going to be at the chili cook off, hopefully we’ll be at the park again with the Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21st, so a bunch of places we’re going to be to let people know we’re still recruiting.”

James said they want to showcase Prince George in the best way possible.

“We also are going to provide them with a t-shirt that they can keep, and then we’re going to have a great appreciation event on the Monday,” she said.

“We’ll be having a big BBQ, have some fun with some music and some comedians that kind of thing, and then we’ll have just a big show of appreciation.

James added there are plenty of positions available for all kinds of people.

Anyone interested can sign up at the Games office or online at the BC Games Website.

The BC Summer Games will take place in Prince George from July 21st-24th.
