PG Brain Injured Group raising awareness on the impacts of head injuries

Over 22 thousand BC residents each year suffer an acquired brain injury that may impact their day-to-day life.

That’s according to the Prince George Brain Injured Group, which is advocating during Brain Injury Awareness Month.

Case Manager, Paul Zorzi told MyPGNow.com out of the 160 thousand people dealing with a brain injury province-wide, a healthy number of them are in Prince George.

“We’ve got over 500 members here in the Prince George area. Of course, brain injuries do not discriminate so our relatively large membership consists of people across every imaginable spectrum that you could think of.”

“If you think about the family members and others touched by those 160-thousand people with brain injuries there is a need to bring more awareness to these effects.”

However, Zorzi adds programs and supports are available for those looking to regain a sense of normalcy back in their lives.

“We offer programs to help people introduce people to what it means to have survived a brain injury. We offer an education course to help people develop tools that relate to the effects of their injury and we offer really robust long-term programs where people can look at the pieces of their lives they are interested in strengthening or rebuilding.”

The Brain Injured Group is hosting a BBQ and open house at their main office on Monday (June 20th) from 12-2pm.
