Mackenzie RCMP investigating suspicious incident on Highway 97

The Mackenzie RCMP are investigating an incident involving a suspicious vehicle.

On Sunday at around 6:50 p.m., police received a report of the suspicious vehicle on Highway 97, near the junction of Highway 39.

Police say it was reported that a man, driving a newer white pickup, approached a woman while she was in her vehicle, and asked where she was going.

She did not provide that information, and left without further information.

A short time later on Highway 97, the woman saw a vehicle, which is described as a newer model white van, pull onto to the highway and stop, causing her to stop as well.

A man (not the same one from earlier) got out of the van and approached her vehicle.

The woman drove around the stopped vehicle, and proceeded on her way without any contact with this person.

A man, matching the description of the man from earlier was seen in the van.

“At this time we do not know why the woman was approached or why the van stopped on the highway,” said Cst. Xavier Del Vecchio-Roy of the Mackenzie RCMP.

“We look for information to identify the men and the vehicles reported to be involved.”

The investigation is ongoing.
