NFL:

The NFL Network has reported that the Cleveland Browns have agreed to trade quarterback Baker Mayfield to the Carolina Panthers in return for a conditional draft pick (either a 4th or 5th round selection in 2024).

The deal is pending a physical.

The Panthers will pay $4.85 million of Mayfield’s salary while the Browns will fork out $10.5 million.

 

MLB:

Oakland A’s  5  Toronto Blue Jays  3

It was the 5th straight loss for Toronto.

The (44-38) Jays are 0-2 on a 7-game West Coast road trip that continues this afternoon (Wednesday 12:37) against the (28-55) A’s in Oakland.

The A’s have the worst record in the Majors.

Soccer:

Canada’s women’s soccer team blanked Trinidad and Tobago 6-0 to open play at the CONCACAF  Championship.

Canada, the defending Olympic champion, is ranked sixth in the world while Trinidad is No. 76.

The eight-team tournament serves as the qualifier in North and Central America and the Caribbean for both the 2023 Women’s World Cup and the 2024 Olympics.

The Devils won the series 2-0 to advance to the best-of-5 league final against the BHL Bandits starting Monday night at 8:00 at Kin 1.

Top-seed Novak Djokovic has advanced to the men’s semifinals at Wimbledon.

He will play #9, Cameron Norrie of Great Britain, on Friday.

Djokovic won his quarterfinal match against #10 Jannik Sinner of Italy in five sets.

Men’s second-seed Rafael Nadal won his quarterfinal today (Wednesday) in five sets over  American Taylor Fritz, the 11th seed.

Nadal will battle Nick Kyrgios in the semis on Friday.

CFL:

Week 5 of the CFL season starts Thursday night (6:05 PT) with the (3-0) Calgary Stampeders at the (1-3) Edmonton Eskimos.

The Stampeders are tied with the (3-0) B.C Lions for second place behind the (4-0) Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The Lions will host Winnipeg on Saturday (4:05 p.m. start time).

Western teams are a combined 14-4 while Eastern teams are a combined 2-12.
