Hockey:

The Chicago Blackhawks have placed forward Brett Connolly of Prince George on unconditional waivers for the purpose of a buyout.

The 30-year-old Connolly was signed through next season at a cap hit of $3.5 million.

He appeared in just nine games with the Blackhawks last season, picking up one assist.

In 536 NHL games with five teams (Tampa Bay, Boston, Washington, Florida, and Chicago) Connolly has 195 points, including 101 goals.

He won the Stanley Cup with Washington in 2018.

Two Prince George Cougars, both goalies, were selected in the NHL Draft in Montreal.

Tyler Brennan was picked in the 4th Round, 102nd overall by the New Jersey Devils, and Ty Young was chosen in the 5th Round, 144th overall by the Vancouver Canucks.

Seattle Mariners  6  Toronto Blue Jays  5

The Mariners swept the four-game series from the Blue Jays.

Toronto has lost nine of its last 10 games.

The (45-42) Blue Jays have slipped to 4th in the AL East, just two games ahead of the last-place Baltimore Orioles.

Toronto will start a 6-game homestand against the (46-40) Philadelphia Phillies Tuesday night. (4:07 PT).

Tennis:

Top-seeded Novak Djokovic won his 4th consecutive Wimbledon championship and 7th overall.

The 35-year-old Djokovic beat Nick Kyrgios in four sets in the final for his 21st Grand Slam title.

He is just one behind Rafael Nadal who has 22.

PG Senior Lacrosse: 

The best-of-five final in Prince George Senior Lacrosse will feature the regular-season champion Canadian Brewhouse Devils against the BHL Bandits.

Game one starts tonight (Monday) at 8:00 at Kin 1.

 

CFL:

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have the best record in the CFL at 5-0 after Saturday’s convincing 43-22 victory over the B.C. Lions in Vancouver.

The Calgary Stampeders are 4-0 and will visit the Blue Bombers Friday night (5:30 PT).

The Lions are 3-1 and do not play again until one week from Thursday (July 21st) when they host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Week 6 of the CFL season starts Thursday (4:35 PT) with the (1-4) Edmonton Eskimos at the (1-3) Montreal Alouettes.

Western teams are a combined 17-6 while Eastern teams are a combined 2-13.
