55 new safe, affordable, supportive homes are opening at ‘My Sister’s Place’ in Prince George.
The new four-building development, located at 2855 14th Avenue, will have 18 transition beds, 16 units of second stage housing, and 21 affordable rental townhomes.
The Prince George and District Elizabeth Fry Society will operate My Sister’s Place, providing on-site support services.
“Women here in the North, and in this community, deserve to have that full continuum of housing when they need it most,” said Kathi Heim, former Executive Director of the Elizabeth Fry Society.
“That’s what we will be providing here, right from crisis, right through to long term.”
Rent for the second-stage housing and townhomes will be calculated at 30% of the resident’s income, or the provincial shelter rate for those who are receiving income or disability assistance.
“Housing is what we need, but supportive housing is more important,” said Mayor Lyn Hall.
“That really is the focus of the city, supportive housing, it really provides various options for women to stabilize and bring great stability to their lives.”
Heim added some women will be moving into the rooms as early as Monday.
My Sister’s Place is a part of the province’s 10-year, $7-billion housing plan.
