Updated: Apartment fire on Queensway in PG results in $200,000 damage

Prince George Fire Rescue has determined the cause of the fire was accidental due electrical equipment.

Fire Chief Cliff Warner says working smoke and heat detectors and the fire alarm system aided in the quick 9-1-1 call to the fire department, as well as waking the occupants to leave the building.

Original Story:

Prince George Fire Rescue responded to a multi-family structure fire on the 1400 block of Queensway this morning (Wednesday) at 1:15.

On arrival, crews found a fully involved apartment suite on the third floor of the building.

According to Assistant Chief Kevin Woodhouse, crews manage to confine the fire to the involved apartment.

The building is valued at 3 1/2 million dollars but damage to the building from the fire is estimated to have been $200,000.

Residents of the apartment complex were able to return to their units except for two units that sustained water and fire damage.

There were about 30 people in the complex at the time of the blaze and all were able to escape the building.

The occupant of the involved unit was taken to the hospital and treated for minor smoke inhalation.

There are no reported injuries to fire personnel.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
