UPDATE: George Street fire deemed suspicous

A fire that broke out Friday afternoon has been deemed suspicious by Prince George Fire Rescue.

At 4:45 pm., crews from two fire halls responded to a reported grass fire in the 500 block of George Street.
Once on scene, firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from behind a plywood façade between two businesses.
The fire was in the basement of an old abandoned building and was being used by homeless people.
Crews were able to get the stubborn fire under control and it did not spread to any buildings.
There were no reported injuries and fire investigators will be back on the scene Saturday.
