Updated: Motor vehicle incident on Highway 16 West at Haldi Road claims a life

Updated: 2:59 p.m., Thursday, July 28th:

Just after 6:00 p.m. last night, Prince George RCMP Frontline officers attended Highway 16 West near Haldi Road for a report of a collision between a pick-up truck and a motorcycle.

Highway 16 West was closed eastbound, and westbound traffic was diverted down Haldi Road for four hours while police investigated.

“Sadly, the driver of the motorcycle did not survive his injuries,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.

“Our thoughts are with the family members and friends of the victim in their time of mourning.”

The driver of pick-up truck was not seriously injured in the incident.

He remained at the scene, and is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.

The Prince George RCMP attended a fatal two-vehicle crash last night (Wednesday).

According to the BC Highway Patrol, it happened at approximately 6:15 pm on Highway 16 at Haldi Road and one of the vehicles involved was a motorcycle.

The local detachment is expected to provide a further update later today (Thursday).

Prince George City Council has voted to replace a garbage truck in the city. At last night's (Monday) meeting, City Council approved a budget of $750,000 for the purchase.  According to Director of Civic Operations Blake McIntosh, this will replace a garbage truck damaged in a motor vehicle incident in May last year.
