Spruce City Stadium fire being investigated as arson

The investigation into yesterday (Wednesday) morning’s fire at the Spruce City Stadium continues.

Just after 5:00 a.m., the Prince George RCMP received the report of the fire, and attended the location.

They spoke with City Parks employees who said the concession was last attended by city staff around 4:00 p.m. on August 2nd.

Frontline police officers were joined at the stadium by an RCMP Fire Investigator and the Forensic Identification Section to collect evidence and obtain photographs.

“We are currently investigating this incident as an act of arson,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.

“Additionally it appears as though the suspects stole two large Bluetooth speakers that were stored inside the concession.”

Cooper said police are now asking the public to come forward if they have any knowledge of who may have stolen the speakers or started the fire.

The fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damages.

The stadium was a major venue for last weekend’s Canadian Native Fastball Championships.
