Police sending safe driving reminder to young drivers following pair of incidents

A pair of recent interactions with young drivers have the Prince George RCMP sending a reminder to young drivers to be safe behind the wheel.

The first incident came on Monday, August 1st, just after 1:00 a.m..

The Prince George RCMP received a report of a vehicle in the area of 2nd Avenue and George Street, the occupants of which were reportedly shooting paintballs at pedestrians.

Mounties located the suspect vehicle after flooding the area.

The six occupants of the vehicle, all between the ages of 17 and 20, were arrested, and paintball guns were located inside of the vehicle.

They were released pending results of the investigation.

The following evening (Tuesday, August 2nd) at around 1:30 a.m., police attempted a traffic stop with a vehicle, which fled from police.

Police say the vehicle was found a short time later on Ospika Boulevard, where it had crashed.

Three of the four occupants, all between the ages of 15 and 17, were located outside of the car.

Officers later found the unlicenced youth driver at his home.

He was issued a violation ticket totaling over $700 in fines.

No one was injured in the incident.

“Prince George RCMP is urging young drivers to make safe choices when in a vehicle, either as the driver or the passenger,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.

“Driving should be regarded as a privilege, as it comes with many inherent risks.”

Both files have been forwarded to the Prince George RCMP’s Restorative Justice Unit.
