BC’s Chief Coroner to provide update on illicit drug numbers

The BC Coroners Service is set to release its latest figures in relation to drug toxicity deaths that continue to cripple the province.

Today (Tuesday), chief coroner Lisa Lapointe will be joined in Victoria by a swath of dignitaries including representative for children and youth Jennifer Charlesworth as well as Moms Stop the Harm co-founder Leslie McBain.

Between January and May of this year, 940 people province-wide have died from a suspected drug overdose with 68 of those in Northern Health.

In Prince George, 29 illicit drug fatalities have occurred.
