MLB:

Toronto Blue Jays  5  Chicago Cubs  4  (11 innings)

The Jays erased a 4-0 deficit after six innings to snap a three-game losing skid.

The same teams play again in Toronto tonight (Tuesday) and Wednesday (4:07 PM PT).

The (69-58) Blue Jays are 3rd in the A.L East and are holding down the third and final
wild-card spot in the American League (behind Tampa Bay and Seattle).

Tennis:

Serena Williams is off to a winning start at the US Open.

The 40-year-old Williams, who is likely playing the final tournament of her 27-year career, beat 80th-ranked Danka Kovinic 6-3, 6-3 in first-round action.

Williams, a 23-time major champion, will play her second-round match against No. 2 seed Anett Kontaveit on Wednesday, in addition to playing doubles alongside sister Venus.

Canadians Leylah Fernandez, Rebecca Marino, Bianca Andreescu, and Felix Auger Aliassime all won their openers to advance to round two.

Hockey:

The USA beat Canada 5-2 today (Tuesday) at the women’s world hockey championship in Denmark.

In the quarterfinals on Thursday, Canada will face Sweden (11 a.m. PT).

The semis go on Saturday and the gold medal game Sunday (10:30 a.m. PT).

The Prince George Cougars begin their 2022 Training Camp Thursday at CN Centre.

It will conclude with the annual Black and White game Sunday at 6:00 PM which is free to the public.

The Cougars will play in four pre-season games: Friday, September 9th against Vancouver in  Port Coquitlam, Saturday, September 10th against Victoria in Port Coquitlam, Friday, September 16th against the Blazers in Kamloops, and Saturday, September 17th against the Blazers in Prince George.

The regular season opens for the Cougars on Friday, September 23rd when they host the Tri-City Americans.

UNBC Timberwolves

The UNBC Timberwolves will host the Victoria Vikes in Canada West men’s soccer Friday and Saturday night at 6:00 at Masich Place Stadium.

Both teams have a tie and a loss after two games.

CFL:

The (8-2) B.C. Lions are idle this week with their third and final bye of the season.

The Lions visit the (4-6) Montreal Alouettes on Friday, September 9th (4:30 PM PT).

Week 13 of the CFL season starts this Friday, September 2nd when Montreal entertains the (2-8) Ottawa Redblacks.

BC Football Conference: 

The (1-4) PG Kodiaks host the Langley Rams in their next game on Saturday, September 10th in the BC Football Conference.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Masich Place Stadium.
