Hockey:

Canada beat Sweden 3-0 in the quarterfinals at the women’s world hockey championship in Denmark.

The Canadian team will face Switzerland in the semifinals Saturday (9:00 a.m. PT) with the winner advancing to the gold medal game on Sunday (10:30 a.m. PT).

The other semi has the U.S. against Czechia.

The Prince George Cougars continue their 2022 Training Camp today (Friday) at CN Centre.

The four-day camp will conclude with the annual Black and White game Sunday night at 6:00 which is free to the public.

The Cougars will play four pre-season games: Friday, September 9th against Vancouver in  Port Coquitlam, Saturday, September 10th against Victoria in Port Coquitlam, Friday, September 16th against the Blazers in Kamloops, and Saturday, September 17th against the Blazers in Prince George.

The regular season opens for the Cougars on Friday, September 23rd when they host the Tri-City Americans.

The Prince George Spruce Kings three-day Training Camp at the Coliseum begins this afternoon at 4:00.

The Spruce Kings final scrimmage of camp will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The Spruce Kings play four pre-season games starting on Thursday, September 8th against the Centennials in Merritt.

They open their regular season on the road, Friday, September 23rd at Coquitlam.

UNBC Timberwolves:

The UNBC Timberwolves host the Victoria Vikes in Canada West men’s soccer tonight at 6:00 and Saturday night at 6:00 at Masich Place Stadium.

Both teams have a tie and a loss after two games.

The UNBC women’s soccer team will start its season with a pair of games on the road this weekend.

The UNBC women visit UBC Okanagan Saturday at noon in Kelowna and Thompson Rivers Sunday at noon in Kamloops.

MLB:

The Toronto Blue Jays begin a 10-game road trip today (Friday 3:35 PT) against the (49-81) Pirates in Pittsburgh.

The (70-59) Blue Jays are 3rd in the A.L East and are holding down the third and final
wild-card spot in the American League (behind Tampa Bay and Seattle).

Tennis:

Denis Shapovalov is the third Canadian to advance to the third round at the U.S. Open after a four-set victory over Roberto Carballes Baena.

The other two that advanced earlier are Rebecca Marino and Bianca Andreescu

40-year-old Serena Williams, a 23-time major champion, is likely playing the final tournament of her 27-year career and will have her third-round match tonight (Friday) against 29-year-old Australian Ajla Tomljanovic, who is ranked 46th.

CFL:

Week 13 of the CFL season starts tonight (4:30 PT) when the (4-6) Montreal Alouettes host the (2-8) Ottawa Redblacks.

The (8-2) B.C. Lions are off until they visit the Alouettes on Friday, September 9th (4:30 PM PT).

BC Football Conference: 

The (1-4) PG Kodiaks host the Langley Rams in their next game on Saturday, September 10th in the BC Football Conference.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Masich Place Stadium.
