The puck drops on Cougars training camp

Day one of this year’s Prince George Cougars training camp is in the books.

This year’s camp features four teams of players facing off in games throughout the weekend, with last night (Thursday) featuring the Prospects Showcase Game against Team Souray and Team Boogaard.

“The game that I saw, I thought both teams played really well, a lot of good hockey players,” said Cougars’ Head Coach and GM Mark Lamb.

“You’ve got to let them get their feet wet a little bit, give them a couple of days, and then really start evaluating. I’m expecting to see them at their highest potential. A lot of these guys are too young to make the team, so it’s just real good experience for them, but the other guys I’m expecting them to really compete for jobs.”

Lamb said camp is quite a bit different this year because they have numbers again.

“Camp last year was a lot smaller, a lot of different circumstances with masking and stuff like that, so it’s a lot more normal.”

Camp will continue tonight with games between Team Byfuglien and Team Chara at 5:00, and Team Connolly and Team Mason at 7:00.

The full camp schedule can be found here.
