Hats off to Henman – UNBC striker makes league history

They call him the mailman, this weekend he delivered.

The UNBC Timberwolves beat the UVic Vikes 4-1 and 3-0 on Friday and Saturday at Masich Place Stadium.

What was a great second weekend of the season is being massively overshadowed by striker Michael Henman, who scored six of the T-wolves 7 goals, three in each game.

Nobody has ever had back-to-back hat tricks in back-to-back games in the history of Canada West university soccer league, dating back to 2006.

“It feels amazing. I am just so happy to do it with these guys,” said Henman. “That is all for them. I am just so happy to be here with these guys. I love them.”

Even sweeter, Henman is from Victoria and got to break that barrier against his home town team.

Henman’s sixth goal of the weekend came in the final minute of play, off a feed from Cody Gysbers that sent him in one-on-one against UVic’s Andrew Gibbs.

He chipped the ball past the keeper from 35 yards out, to do what nobody had done before.

“That assist. I love it,” said Henman, postgame of his teammate Gysbers. “That guy is my best friend. That assist. It feels unbelievable.”

The weekend sweep improves UNBC’s record to 2-1-1 in the young season, good enough for third place. They will next play in Kamloops against TRU next weekend.

Last night, the female T-wolves team was in Kelowna for a game against UBCO, ending up on the wrong end of a tight 1-0 game.
