Air quality statement in place over Prince George

Update as of noon Thursday: The air quality statement is no longer in effect.

An air quality statement is in effect, Environment Canada says smoke from the Battleship Mountain fire is blowing south over Prince George.

They are warning that while natural, wildfire smoke can impact your health, especially for people with pre-existing health conditions and respiratory infections (like COVID-19).

Conditions can change hourly, they are asking the public to be prepared even if skies start off looking blue.

Environment Canada is also saying wearing a mask does little to protect against smoke inhalation, and the sense of security it might bring could encourage more outdoor activity, which in turn could result in more smoke inhalation.
