MLB:

Jared Young of Prince George made his Major League Baseball debut today for the Chicago Cubs in a 2-1 home win over the Colorado Rockies.

Young started at first base and batted sixth in the lineup.

He went 1-for-4 with an eighth inning double.

The 27-year-old was called up from Triple-A Iowa this week.

Young earned the promotion after batting .228 with 16 homers and 57 RBIs in 108 games this year with Iowa.

 

Tampa Bay Rays 11  Toronto Blue Jays  0

With 18 games left, the (81-63) Blue Jays are tied with the Seattle Mariners for the top two A.L. wildcard berths, half a game ahead of the Rays.

Tampa is holding down the third and final wildcard spot, 4 1/2 games ahead of Baltimore.

The Jays host the Orioles in a 3-game series starting tonight (4:07 PM PT).

WHL:

The Prince George Cougars have a home-and-home this weekend against the Blazers to conclude their preseason: tonight (Friday) in Kamloops and Saturday in PG.

The Cougars split their first two exhibition games last weekend in Port Coquitlam, a 4-2 win over the Vancouver Giants was followed by a 5-2 loss against the Victoria Royals.

The regular season opens for the Cougars on Friday, September 23rd when they host the Tri-City Americans.

The Spruce Kings conclude their preseason schedule on Saturday when they visit Salmon Arm.

P.G. is 1-2 in the preseason, having lost a pair to Merritt, 4-3 on Wednesday, and 6-5 on September 8th.

The Spruce Kings open their regular season on the road, Friday, September 23rd at Coquitlam.

The Chiefs are 2-0 to lead the AFC West followed by the 1-1 Chargers.

CFL:

Week 15 of the CFL season starts tonight at 6:30 (PT) with (3-10) Edmonton at (6-7) Saskatchewan.

The B.C. Lions visit the Calgary Stampeders Saturday at 4:00 PM (PT) in the first of a home-and-home.

The same teams will also meet Saturday, September 24th (7:00) in Vancouver.

The (8-3) Lions are tied with the (8-4) Stampeders for second in the West Division, although B.C. has played one fewer game.

BC Football Conference:

The (1-5) Prince George Kodiaks visit the (2-4) Kamloops Broncos Saturday night at 6:00 in the BC Football Conference.

The Broncos beat the Kodiaks 35-20 on August 6th in Prince George.

Canada West Soccer:

The UNBC Timberwolves play in Alberta this weekend in Canada West Soccer.

The (2-3-1) UNBC men visit (1-0-4) University of Alberta today (Friday 4:00 PT) and (1-4) Lethbridge Sunday afternoon (1:15 PT).

The (2-2) UNBC women play at (2-2) MacEwan Saturday and at (2-2) Alberta Sunday with both games to start at 11 a.m. PT.
