Use your head and wear a helmet

Today people are being reminded to use their heads and wear a helmet.

The Northern Brain Injury Awareness is asking people to wear their helmets and decorate them to raise awareness about head safety.

NBIA Coordinator Will Lewis says the idea is to get people thinking about protecting their brains.

“The reality is that for a long time brain injury has been swept under the carpet,” says Lewis, “that right now today in Canada, there is 1 in 3 people that are directly affected by brain injury in one way or another.”

Lewis says the main reason why people don’t use a helmet is because its much more convenient to not put one on.

A special “Happy Helmet Day” is being held on 4th Avenue until two pm where people can buy a helmet for $20.
