WHL:

The Prince George Cougars split their first two games of the season against the Tri-City Americans.

The Cougars won 5-1 Friday and lost 8-3 Saturday.

Attendance was 2,497 for the opening night followed by 1,218 at CN Centre.

The Cougars continue a four-game homestand Friday and Saturday against the Kelowna Rockets.

BCHL: 

The Prince George Spruce Kings began their BCHL season with back-to-back wins on the road.

The Spruce Kings blanked the Coquitlam Express 3-0 on Friday and followed that with a 3-2 triumph on Saturday over the Langley Rivermen.

P.G. will host the Vernon Vipers on Friday and Saturday.

BC Elite Hockey League: (BCEHL)

The U18 Cariboo Cougars lost their first two games of the season, 6-3 (Saturday) and 7-4 (Sunday) to the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds in Abbotsford.

The U18 female Northern Capitals split their first two games in Kelowna against the Thompson-Okanagan Lakers.

The Caps won 5-3 (Saturday) and lost 6-2 (Sunday).

Canada West Soccer: (at Masich Place Stadium)

Men: UNBC Timberwolves  3  MacEwan  1  (Sunday)

The UNBC men are 5-4-1. They also beat Saskatchewan 4-0 on Friday.

Michael Henman had four more goals on the weekend, three on Friday and one on Sunday afternoon.

The UNBC men visit (5-2) UBC Friday and Saturday night at 7:30.

 

Women:  Victoria  4  UNBC Timberwolves  1  (Sunday)

The UNBC women are 2-5-1. They also lost 2-0 on Friday against UBC.

The UNBC women visit (0-3-5) Fraser Valley Friday night at 5:30 and (6-1-1) Trinity Western Saturday night at 5:00.

BC Football Conference: (at Masich Place Stadium)

Kamloops Broncos  14  Prince George Kodiaks  9  (Saturday)

The (1-7) Kodiaks visit the (4-5) Langley Rams Saturday afternoon at 4:00 before concluding their first season with a home game on Saturday, October 8th at 7:00 against the (8-0) Okanagan Sun.

NFL: (Week 3)

Denver  11  San Francisco  10  (Sunday Night game)

Miami  21  Buffalo  19

The Dolphins are the only AFC team at 3-0.

The Philadelphia Eagles are 3-0 in the NFC after a 24-8 victory over Washington.

The only other unbeaten team in the NFL is the 2-0 New York Giants who host the 1-1 Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost their first game, 14-12 against the Green Bay Packers.

The only winless teams in the NFL are (0-3) Las Vegas and (0-2-1) Houston.

CFL:

Even though they lost 25-11 to the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday, the B.C. Lions have clinched a playoff spot.

The (9-4) Lions are tied with the (9-5) Stampeders for second in the West Division, although B.C. has a game in hand.

The Lions host (3-10) Ottawa Friday night at 7:30.

Week 17 of the CFL season begins Friday (5:00 PT) with (6-8) Saskatchewan at (12-2) Winnipeg.

MLB:

Toronto Blue Jays  7  Tampa Bay Rays  1

The (86-67) Jays, with just nine regular-season games left, lead the American League Wild Card standings by 2 games over Tampa and 2 1/2 over Seattle.

In the race for the final wild-card spot, Seattle is four games ahead of Baltimore.

The Jays host the A.L. East-leading New York Yankees tonight (Monday 4:07 PT), Tuesday and Wednesday.

Toronto will also entertain Boston on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday before concluding the regular season with a 3-game series at Baltimore on October 3rd, 4th, and 5th.

Jared Young of Prince George did not play in the Chicago Cubs’ 8-3 victory (Sunday) over the Pirates in Pittsburgh.

Young did play in the previous two games against the Pirates and had a hit in each game.

In six games with the Cubs since his call-up from Triple-A Iowa, the 27-year-old Young is batting .263, going 5-for-19 with two doubles, three walks, no RBIs, and seven strikeouts.
