Baseball:

Jared Young of Prince George hit a walk-off two-run homer to give the Triple-A Iowa Cubs a 4-2 victory over the Toledo Mudhens in their final game of the season.

Young was returned to Iowa after making his Major League debut with the Chicago Cubs.

In six games with Chicago, the 27-year-old Young made his Major League debut and batted .263, going 5-for-19 with two doubles, three walks, no RBIs, and seven strikeouts.

 

MLB:

New York Yankees  8  Toronto Blue Jays  3  

Yankees slugger Aaron Judge belted his 61st homer in the 7th inning, tying the American League set by Roger Maris in 1961, (for most home runs in a season).

Judge had gone seven games without a homer since belting his 60th.

The (87-69) Jays, with just six regular-season games left, lead the American League Wild Card standings.

The Jays host the Boston Red Sox on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday before concluding the regular season with a 3-game series at Baltimore on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, (October 3rd, 4th, and 5th).

Canada West Soccer:

Striker Michael Henman of the UNBC Timberwolves men’s soccer team has been named Canadian U Sports Player of the Week for the second time this season.

He received the award one day after being selected Canada West Player of the Week.

Henman had four goals in two-weekend games to give him a Canada West-leading 15 goals on the season in just 10 games.

He is the first soccer player in Canada West Sports to score four hat tricks in a single season, and there are still 6 games left.

The UNBC Timberwolves are on the road this weekend in Canada West soccer.

The (5-4-1) UNBC men visit the (5-2) UBC Thunderbirds Friday and Saturday night at 7:30.

The (2-5-1) UNBC women visit the (0-3-5) Fraser Valley Cascades Friday night at 5:30 and the (6-1-1) Trinity Western Spartans Saturday night at 5:00.

NHL:

The Vancouver Canucks entertain the Seattle Kraken in preseason action tonight (Thursday 6:30). The same teams have another exhibition game Saturday in Seattle.

WHL:

The (1-1) Prince George Cougars continue a four-game homestand Friday and Saturday against the (0-0-1) Kelowna Rockets.

Cougars goalie Ty Young and defenceman Ethan Sampson have both returned to the team from NHL camps.

BCHL: 

The (2-0) Prince George Spruce Kings have their home opener Friday night at 7:00 against the (0-2) Vernon Vipers.

The same two teams also play Saturday night at the Kopar Memorial Arena (PG Coliseum).

BC Elite Hockey League: (BCEHL)

The (0-2) U18 Cariboo Cougars host the (2-0) Valley West Giants Saturday afternoon at 2:30 and Sunday morning at 11:00 at Kin 1 in the BC Elite Hockey League.

The (1-1) U18 female Northern Capitals play games at the league showcase this weekend in Surrey. The Caps face the Greater Vancouver Comets Friday morning at 10:00, the Vancouver Island Seals Saturday afternoon at 4:30, and the Fraser Valley Rush Sunday morning at 8:00.

NFL:

Week four of the NFL season begins tonight (Thursday at 5:15 PT) with (3-0) Miami at (1-2) Cincinnati.

The Dolphins and the (3-0) Philadelphia Eagles are the only unbeaten teams in the NFL.

The only winless teams in the NFL are (0-3) Las Vegas and (0-2-1) Houston.

CFL:

The (9-4) B.C. Lions host the (3-10) Ottawa Redblacks Friday night at 7:30.

The Lions have clinched a playoff spot and are tied with the (9-5) Calgary Stampeders for second in the West Division, although B.C. has a game in hand.

Week 17 of the CFL season begins Friday (5:00 PT) with (6-8) Saskatchewan at (12-2) Winnipeg.

BC Football Conference:

The Prince George Kodiaks have two games left in their first season in the BC Football Conference.

The (1-7) Kodiaks visit the (4-5) Langley Rams Saturday afternoon at 4:00 before concluding with a home game on Saturday, October 8th at 7:00 p.m. against the (8-0) Okanagan Sun.
