Tow trucks to be affected as BCAA threatens lockout

BCAA members may not be getting a tow truck soon.

Contract disputes between BCAA and COPE 378 have hit a breaking point with the company threatening to lockout the union Monday at 4:00 pm.

This is the union in charge of the call centre that dispatches tow trucks for stranded drivers.

COPE 378 Vice President Heather Lee says BCAA has employees who do similar work as their members.

“But they are paying our members less,” says Lee, “in fact the employees of BCAA do similar work and work 35 hours a week and basically get the same pay as our members who are required to work 40 hours a week, that is simply not fair.”

Lee says a lockout will affect service across the province.
