“We want to meet people where they’re at,”: PG RCMP host Coffee with a Cop initiative

Members of the Prince George RCMP’s Community Policing unit engaged with the public this morning (Wed).

The detachment hosted its Coffee with a Cop event at the Open Door Cafe in the Hart where residents could ask questions to officers in a more casual setting.

Cpl. Jennifer Cooper told MyPGNow.com some popular topics were discussed amongst the public.

“Crime downtown, our homeless encampments, and how policing has changed over the last 20 years. It’s kind of what I expected to be honest on what is on people’s minds.”

“We wanted to hold this event in such a way that takes away any agendas, any planned speeches in a manner that we don’t normally get to interact with the community in our day-to-day roles really. We are just trying to reach people where they are at.”

Cooper added they plan on making this a more regular thing.

“We aim to have this as a quarterly event and we want to move it to different locations around Prince George. Kind of capture the Bowl, College Heights, Downtown and wherever we have people that are willing to sit down and have a chat.”

Officers will also be at Zoe’s Java House on 4th Avenue this afternoon from 1-2 pm.
