Special Advisors Report prompted Erica McLean’s run for SD 57 Trustee

Erica McLean is looking to become a School District 57 Trustee.

McLean is an educator, a graduate of both UNBC and CNC and a mother of two children who attend schools in School District 57.

She says what drove her to run for a spot as an SD 57 trustee was the Special Advisors Report.

“I really saw how it had torn down a lot of what School District 57 staff, educators, administrators, teachers, and support staff, and how that deflated a lot of the work that is already happening,” McLean said.

“As an educator, I worked in SD 57 for almost ten years, alongside hundreds of caring adults who care so much about creating belonging and creating space for our most vulnerable students, including indigenous students, and who try their best to do that work of being allies everyday.”

She says she thought the Special Advisors Report was ‘a little bit misguided in terms of how they captured what is really happening in our schools.’

“I do believe more than ever, our schools need to know that their community is behind them, and support them, and we are here to cheer them on and provide some of those resources that they critically need in schools to do the best work that they can for those students,” she said.

She added the culture in schools is struggling, and could use support at the leadership table.

The municipal election is set for October 15th.
